We do our best every day to make our customers happy
We are Scents of Humour – a group of five young Kiwis running a business as part of the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) and being assessed through NCEA.
Our team is passionate about creating something different: a product that not only helps people smell good, but also adds a bit of humour to everyday life. We believe smelling good shouldn’t be serious or complicated – it should be simple, affordable, and fun.
Through this project we’ve learned to take on different roles – from marketing and production to finance and sales – and to work together to bring our ideas to life.
Our Story
It all started with a simple problem: colognes today are delicate, expensive, and impractical.
Most come in glass bottles that can leak, break, or be left at home because they’re just too bulky to carry around.
As part of the Young Enterprise Scheme, we set out to create something different – a cologne that’s solid, portable, affordable and natural. Using just a few key ingredients – beeswax, coconut oil and jojoba oil – we began experimenting with scents and textures until we found a product we were proud of.
What started as a classroom project has grown into Scents of Humour, a real business run by five Year 13 students. Each of us has a role, from marketing to production, and we’ve been learning everything from teamwork and problem‑solving to how to bring a product to market.
Our goal is simple: to make smelling good easy, fun and Kiwi-made.

CEO
Hi, my name is Ben. I'm the CEO of Scents of Humour and I'm in charge of lots of the boring stuff, but mainly I keep everyone on track and pitch in when they need help. I'm a part of the hostel program at Mount Aspiring College and also love the outdoors. Whether it’s getting stuck into a project, heading out for an adventure, or helping the team come up with new ideas, I like to stay busy and make sure things keep moving forward.

Production Manager
Hi, my name is Luca. I'm responsible for all hands-on production of our products and ensuring we meet a high standard of quality that we are proud of. I'm passionate about the outdoors, participating in the MAC outdoor pursuits program and also participating in skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking in my free time. I love a good challenge and often think outside the box for better or worse.

Marketing Director
Hi, my name is Harrison. I'm the expert Marketing Director in charge of all the marketing material for our business. I'm often planning posts or designing logos and stickers for our business. In my spare time, I'm a part of a five-piece alt-rock band in Wanaka, where I play electric guitar. Music and design both let me be creative in different ways, so I enjoy bringing that same energy and style to how we present Scents of Humour.

Hi, I am Seb. My role in the company is sales and everything involving selling, which also means I often help out with other areas when needed. Outside of the company, I am a student at Mount Aspiring College and, like most here, I enjoy spending time outdoors. Whether it’s hanging out with friends, exploring the area, or just getting stuck into something active, I like to stay busy and involved both in and out of the business.

Hello, my name is Caleb. I’m the Finance Manager here at Scents of Humour, which means I’m in charge of keeping an eye on the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow—making sure our finances stay on track so the business can keep growing. Like the other three, I’m part of the hosteler program at Mount Aspiring College and share a love for the outdoors. Whether it’s hiking, biking, or just exploring the beautiful Wanaka area, I’m always up for an adventure. I believe staying active and connected with nature helps keep me focused and energised, which I bring back to the business every day.
